Gulu City senior staff and members of the Executive Committee, together with the Bus Park administration and officials from Laroo-Pece Division, have conducted an inspection and general assessment of the Gulu Main Bus Park as part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and transport management within the city.
The inspection, carried out on Monday, served as a fact-finding mission aimed at establishing the actual size and capacity of the bus park, assessing the level of organisation and sanitation, and identifying key operational and infrastructure challenges affecting its performance.
Before the inspection, the LC I Chairperson of Gulu Main Bus Park, Mr. Buspark B, presented a number of concerns affecting the facility. Among the issues raised were the limited size of the bus park, disorganisation within the facility, dilapidated structures such as the visitors’ shed, poor toilet facilities, challenges in revenue remittance by some bus operators, and inadequate parking space for vehicles.
During the inspection, the team toured various sections of the bus park to assess the concerns raised and gather firsthand information that will guide future planning and interventions.
Speaking after the inspection, Gulu City Clerk, Innocent Ahimbisibwe, said the technical team and members of the Executive Committee had taken note of the issues identified and would discuss them further during the planning process for the next financial year.
“We have listened to the concerns raised by the bus park administration and witnessed some of the challenges firsthand. These issues will be considered during planning and budgeting for the next financial year to ensure a more organised and efficient transport system in the city,” he said.
The City Mayor, represented by the Secretary for Production, Works and Technical Services, Patrick Ojok, assured stakeholders that the city leadership was committed to addressing the challenges affecting the bus park.
“We have compiled the issues raised and will work with the technical team to address them progressively. Our goal is to improve service delivery and create a cleaner, safer, and better organised environment for transport operators and passengers,” he said.
The inspection forms part of Gulu City Council’s broader efforts to strengthen urban management, improve public infrastructure, and enhance the quality of services provided to residents and visitors.
